Patagonia, a vast and isolated territory of steep mountains, forests, streams and lakes… This fine region is located in the province of Neuquén; the heart of the big game mountain hunting area of Argentina, 1100 miles from Buenos Aires, where our game was introduced more than one hundred years ago. The environment of our hunting area is composed of valleys and creeks in the middle of a breathtaking mountainous and high desert environment and the hunts are conducted by 4WD vehicles or horseback riding. Its game comes from the first introduction of red deer and wild boar, back in 1911, when the best quality of animals were introduced from Europe to the south of where this region is located. These deer migrated in different directions and they found an abundance of water and food in this beautiful place far from urban centers and they were capable of populating the mountains without having contact with man, which allowed the current herds to remain in a completely wild state..

Big Game
This first-class lodge runs a total of privately owned 60.000 acres of hunting land of pristine Patagonian mountains covered by forests with beautiful valleys crossed by water courses where game finds a perfect habitat. It is located in the southern part of the Province of Neuquén, near a location named Quillen. Hunters have to take a domestic flight to the beautiful mountain village of San Martin de los Andes (Chapelco airport) and then drive less than two hours through a scenic road in the middle of the mountains. The ranch has roads that allow it to cover most of the hunting area with 4WD vehicles.
Accommodations are in a cozy and homey "Patagonian style" hunting lodge with all the modern comfort required by international tourism. It has six nice bedrooms with a private bathroom and spacious social areas for the solace of our guests. It also has indoor and outdoor barbecue areas and an open bar. It also offers international gourmet cuisine prepared by professional chefs who fix different dishes based on Argentinian traditional meals, game meat and different types of delicacies. Argentinian quality wine and beer are freely available during meals. Estancia Arroyo Verde is located on the world renowned River Traful and one of the first private estancias to open its doors to anglers and guests from around the world.
Situated within the Nahuel Huapi National Park in Northern Patagonia, it is just an hour and a half from the local airport, San Carlos de Bariloche. Nestled in the Traful valley, Estancia Arroyo Verde has for more than 25 years played host to discerning anglers of all ages and abilities and to those seeking adventure in comfort.
The amazing river Traful which runs for ten miles through the unspoilt beauty of Arroyo Verde is home to land-locked salmon, brown and rainbow trout. The surrounding Andes Mountains make for breathtaking horse riding, hiking excursions and bird watching. The Andean Condor is one of the most appreciated among all the birds of our estancia.
Overlooking the valley, the traditional wood and stone built houses are set in beautifully landscaped gardens with mature trees, shrubs and colourful borders. There are several outside seating areas to enjoy a drink before lunch or to watch the sunset.
In the main house, the sun-lounge, bar, living-room and dining-room with their fireplaces were designed to create a cosy and relaxed atmosphere for guests. Each of the four individually decorated twin/double bedrooms has en-suite facilities. In an adjacent house another guest bedroom with en-suite bathroom has a separate entrance and private porch.
Trout Fishing
The season is from November through April. The Traful is an exclusively catch and release fly-fishing river. At the beginning of the season the river runs high and fast with the level dropping in December but usually with fast water till the beginning or middle of January, it then runs slow till the first Autumn rains.
A typical mountain river of crystal clear water varying in width from 60 to 90 feet (20 to 30 meters) with rapids and pools throughout its 10 miles course is home to rainbow and brown trout and land- locked salmon. Although the average size of the fish is around 20 to 23 ins. for trout and 22 to 24 ins. for salmon, it is not uncommon to catch a 28 ins. Salmon, a 30 ins. Rainbow, a 29 ins. Brown, all which have been caught recently, something to think about when you choose the tippet for your leader.
Also take into account that sections of the riverbank are lined with trees and shrubs making casting more exciting and rather challenging!
